It’s GO TIME! Piper and MacGuyver are “honeymooning” this week and we expect puppies to arrive around December 7. These 2 have had a litter in the past and we were very impressed with the puppies. This will be our first litter up north and we couldn’t be more excited for them to arrive.
Families always ask me which season is best for adding a puppy to the family and it’s often thought that summer is the perfect time. However, with a new puppy (just like a new baby) they need routine, structure, regular naps, potty training, puppy socialization classes, etc. Summer is often filled with trips, holidays, camps, outings and a lot of fun. So, given that the puppy isn’t fully vaccinated and can’t be exposed to public places until 16 weeks of age and that he/she needs routine and puppy classes, I’d wager that summer isn’t necessarily the best time to add a new pup to the home. If you were to add a new puppy to your family in February, that would give you 4 months of puppyhood prior to the arrival of summer. By the time summer arrives, your puppy is finished with puppy class, fully vaccinated, house trained, knows basic commands and is ready for the adventures that summer offers.
Piper’s puppies will be ready for their new families in February!
